About
“I would rather ask the questions than answer them. Somehow people find me anyway.
I am Jennifer Whitfield — writer, consultant, and committed to plain English. I hold a BA in Psychology with a minor in English from Athabasca University, with studies in organizational psychology, neuroscience, and learning disorders. I have spent most of my career doing one thing well: taking something complicated and writing it down in a way the next person can actually use.
I came to consulting through the side door. Years of contract and temp work in corporate finance and administration meant I was onboarded constantly — into functional teams, into broken ones, and into everything in between. I read a lot of institutional documents in that time. Some were efficient. Most were not. I also spent five years owning and operating a retail business. Combined, those experiences gave me a specific kind of awareness: I know what good documentation feels like from the floor, not just from the org chart — and I know what it is like to be the person with everything in their head and no time to write it down.
What I Do
My consulting work focuses on operational documentation — SOPs, workflow guides, training manuals, and knowledge capture. I work with small business owners in the Metro Vancouver area and with corporate HR and operations teams who need someone their staff will actually talk to. I conduct interviews, ask the right questions, and write the result in plain language that holds up when the next person arrives.
My writing work spans UX and behavioural psychology, investigative journalism, and narrative analysis. I bring the same instinct to all of it — find the thing that is actually being said, and write it clearly.
The Whistle Press
I co-founded The Whistle Press with my partner as a YouTube channel covering narrative analysis, psychology, and history. It is where the analytical instincts behind my writing and consulting work get to run. We look at film, television, literature, and the stories that shape how we understand the world. Every video exists because we think it is worth making.

Outside the Work
I am a Gen X empty nester living in Maple Ridge with my partner and our cat. In my spare time I can be found at the beach, reading things that have no practical application whatsoever. My favourite books are Mr. President by Miguel Ángel Asturias, The Priest Fainted by Catherine Temma Davidson, and anything by Charles Dickens. Those are deep cuts and I stand by all of them.
A Note on Credentials
am not a licensed psychologist or therapist and do not offer clinical services of any kind. My psychology background informs my analytical and consulting work — how I conduct interviews, how I read organizational dynamics, and how I write about human behaviour. If you are looking for clinical support, please seek a registered professional.
